Senior field agent Gibbs is a former gunny or gunnery sergeant who did panama and desert storm.
He is a former marine and this training and rules still influence him in his job.
He joined NIS a year before its name changed and became NCIS. His boss was special agent Franks
and he is the one who allowed him to be the outstanding agent he is.
Jethro is not really a talkative man and he is really secret about his past. We learn at the season
finale of season 3 and the whole season 4 that Gibbs had medals, a purple heart and a silver star.
We also learn that he had more than 3 ex wives. His first wife whose name is Shannon was killed with
his daughter Kelly in a car crash, caused by a criminal because she witnessed a murder.
The poor marine came back completely lost keeping his secret for decade.
As a NCIS agent Gibbs is the best. During the first years we follow his investigations he is,
as he defines himself, a bastard, it is his way to investigate and it works. We only saw a nice
Gibbs after special agent Caitlin Todd’s death and at the beginning of the fourth season when he
came back from Mexico where he retired, living with his former boss.
Talking about boss, the NCIS director, Jenny Sheppard is his former teammate and we guess they were
about to marry but it didn’t happen (they had an affair, but Jenny chose her career over her lover).
Gibbs only believes in kids because he says that they are the only ones who can’t lie.
His kids and friends are his coworkers, special agent Dinozzo, Mc Gee and David. He is a mentor
to them and a kind of a father. Abby and Ducky are also his friends and those two relationships
seem to last for long. Gibbs is a complex man, a nice man undercover, a marine in the heart,
a special field agent in the head. Without him, NCIS is not the same at all.
